Management Training Courses
As part of our work with the Westminster Creative Industries Programme and in association with our sponsor, Wingrave Yeats, UK Screen is producing a series of management training courses for our Westminster-based SME members. The courses are developed by Creative People and will be aimed at helping new managers and those with limited formal training to gain confidence and become more effective in their roles.
All courses will be led by trainers with experience in the industry and will be tailored to meet the needs of participants. Each of the four courses will run twice.

Looking for a New Year resolution? Become a Stem ambassador
UK Screen is actively supporting STEMNet’s ambassador scheme. The scheme allows people from a huge range of STEM backgrounds become a STEM Ambassador and volunteer their time to help young people see the link between science, technology, engineering or math (STEM) subjects and their ‘real-world’ applications.
Ambassadors are required to carry out at least one activity per year to act as an inspiring role model to young people and demonstrate in action, or talk about where their career has taken them.
A recent survey of STEM Ambassadors (March 2010) highlighted the following benefits to being involved:
- 78 % of respondents said that their communication and presentation skills improved
- 56 % said they benefit by being part of a UK-wide movement of people helping STEM education
- 56% said that they benefited by taking pride in their job and achievements
- 81% stated that their employer benefits through an increased profile in schools, colleges, and the community, and better understanding of what the organisation does
Further information is available on our website.
If you are interested in becoming a STEM Ambassador, please register your interest by the 26 January.
Young Rewired State
Young Rewired State (YRS) is the philanthropic arm of Rewired State and is a network of developers aged 18 and under who have an aptitude for coding or designing for the internet. YRS aims to foster and challenge every young person in the UK who can code and support UK companies by ensuring talent is created, funded and grown in the UK.
Every year, YRS holds a hack week in the form of a competition that engages young coders in programming with released government datasets. Business around the country act as hosts and mentors travel around the country supporting the initiative. At the end of the week there is a Show and Tell where each application built during the week is shown to an audience of peers, industry experts, government, and press.
YRS is looking for ongoing support through sponsorship, mentoring or hosting a centre. For further information, see the website or contact yrs@rewiredstate.org.
